What’s Getting in the Way of Teaching Your Teen?

Hello there Confident Driving Coach Reader

Let’s be real for a moment.
Teaching your teen to drive can feel like a lot. Between juggling work, family, and life’s curveballs; it’s no wonder that even with the best intentions, driving time can get pushed to the side.

So if you've been thinking:

  • “We just don’t have time”
  • “It’s too overwhelming”
  • “They’re not ready... and maybe I’m not either”

Please know—you’re not alone. These are normal, valid feelings. But they don’t have to be the end of the road.

So, what’s the real roadblock?

This week, I want to gently help you identify what's truly getting in the way and give you permission to approach it with compassion, not pressure.

Here are some of the most common roadblocks I see with families:

🚧 Time

Solution: Short & intentional lessons.
Even just 20 minutes around the block counts. Schedule what you can and don’t stress about what you can’t.

🚧 Nerves (yours or theirs!)

Solution: Calm coaching energy.
Use slow breathing, simple language, and clear prompts. It’s okay to pull over, pause, and reset.

🚧 Avoidance

Solution: Start with what’s familiar.
Revisit the same quiet streets from the last drive. Building confidence is more important than covering distance.

🚧 “I don’t know what I’m doing!”

Solution: That’s exactly why I created this program.
You don’t need to be an expert. You just need a plan, support, and the willingness to learn alongside your teen.

Coaching Reminder: Small Steps Create Momentum

If driving practice has stalled a bit lately, this week is a great time to simply start again.

💡 You don’t need to “catch up.” You just need to move forward...slowly, steadily, together.

🎁 Tools That Might Help:

  • First Drive Checklist – If you haven’t downloaded it yet, this is your go-to for getting started again calmly.
  • Parking Cheat Sheet – Not quite ready? Save it for next week when we build up to it!
  • Course Waitlist Reminder – Our full course “Teach Your Teen to Drive Like a Pro” opens soon. If you haven’t joined the waitlist yet, now’s the time!

💙 Final Thought

Every driving journey has slow patches. What matters most isn’t how fast you go. It’s that you keep showing up. One lesson, one turn, one breath at a time.

And remember...you don’t have to do this alone. I’m right here in the passenger seat with you.

Warm smiles and safe miles,

How to Teach your Teen to Park

Hi Reader Some of the greatest moments I’ve ever had with my boys weren’t planned. They weren’t fancy family trips or milestone celebrations… They were in the car. Just us, travelling somewhere, side by side. That’s where the real chats happened. That’s where I heard their biggest fears, their funniest stories, and their quietest dreams. And interestingly, research shows I’m not alone. Studies tell us that boys often feel more comfortable sharing during side-by-side conversations, rather than...
